The following calculations are used in this test:

 

Water Content

 

w = 100 * (Mws - Mds) / (Mds - Mt)

 

where,

w        = Percentage water content

Mws        = Mass of tare and wet specimen

Mds        = Mass of tare and dry specimen

Mt        = Mass of tare

 

Plasticity Index

 

PI = LL - PL

 

where,

PI        = Plasticity index

LL        = Liquid limit

PL        = Plastic limit
