The following calculations are used in this test:

 

Water Content

 

w = 100 * (Mcws - Mcs) / (Mcs - Mc)

 

where,

w        = Percentage water content

Mcws        = Mass of can and wet specimen

Mcs        = Mass of can and dry specimen

Mc        = Mass of can

 

 

Maximum Dry Density

 

ρd = (M - Mm) / Vm / (1 + w/100)

 

where,

rd        = Dry density

M        = Mass of soil and mold

Mm        = Mass of mold

Vm        = Volume of mold

 

 

Maximum Dry Unit Weight

 

γd = ρd * γw

 

where,

γd        = Dry unit weight

γw        = Unit weight of water (9.807 kN/m3)
