The following calculations are used in this test:

 

Dry Density

 

ρd = M3 / V

 

where,

ρd        = Dry density

V        = Volume of cylinder

M3        = Dry mass of cylinder sample

 

M3 = 100 * [(M1 - M2) / (100 + w)]

 

and

M1        = Mass of cylinder and wet sample

M2        = Mass of cylinder

w        = Percentage water content

 

 

Dry Unit Weight

 

γd = ρd * γw

 

where,

γd        = Dry unit weight

γw        = Unit weight of water (9.807 kN/m3)
